To promote winter tourism with a new twist, the Uttarakhand government is launching a unique “Snow Leopard Tour,” aimed at boosting Himalayan tourism during the winter season. State Tourism Secretary Dhiraj Garbyal announced that the initiative will begin on a pilot basis in Gangotri National Park, Uttarkashi.
The decision was made at a late-night meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, attended by senior state officials and district magistrates. The meeting focused on strengthening winter tourism and making Uttarakhand a year-round tourist destination.
Snow Leopard Tourism: A New Winter Experience –
Under the Snow Leopard Tour, areas like Gangotri will be opened to tourists during winter in a controlled and eco-sensitive manner. This initiative is expected to promote homestays, local guides, adventure activities, and job opportunities in border and remote areas, boosting the local economy.
The Chief Minister also directed the immediate resumption of the Snow Leopard Sighting Programme, helicopter skating, and the Himalayan Car Rally to enhance winter travel appeal. Infrastructure, Festivals, and Cultural Development
CM Dhami directed officials to ensure that all tourism facilities managed by the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam and the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam are fully operational by December 20th. He also emphasised the need to improve roads, hills, and other essential infrastructure at major tourist destinations and announced that he would personally inspect the arrangements by road.

With initiatives such as snow leopard tourism, adventure sports, cultural festivals, and infrastructure, the Uttarakhand government aims to establish the state as a vibrant, sustainable, and all-season tourism hub, offering unique experiences to travellers even during the winter months.
